Psychosocial support

Services offered: psychosocial support

The Family Liaison Officer (FLO) works at the Transition Centre. Their role is to provide tailored care, services and support to military families coping with the illness, injury or death of a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member. Although the FLO works closely with the Transition Centre, it upholds confidentiality regarding the use or non‑use of its services, as well as the content of all meetings, emails and phone conversations. No information is shared without your consent, except as required by law.*

Illnesses, injuries and deaths, whether service‑related or not, occur unexpectedly and can create a lot of turmoil within a family. That is why we provide free, confidential professional services.

Here are some examples of families’ questions and needs:

Regular activities and services

  • How can I help my partner get better?
  • I’m exhausted and I don’t know where to start.
  • I don’t understand what’s going on with him/her.
  • How can I talk to my children about illness (physical or mental)?
  • I see that the children are affected by the condition of their father/mother. What can I do?
  • I’m worried about him/her; what can I say or do?
  • What’s going to happen when he’s out of the military? Will he have access to care? Will we, as a family, get any help?
  • Leaving the CAF is distressing me, and I don’t want to put the burden on my spouse.
